Dawn Gyford - Veterinary Nurse / Practice Manager

(Bachelor of Business, UTS 2001)
(Cert II Animal Studies 2012)
(Cert IV Veterinary Nursing 2014)

Dawn began her working career in business marketing, after completing a Bachelor of Business in 2001. She worked for a number of years as a marketing assistant and later as an advertising planner at various corporate companies in Sydney, before deciding to change careers.

Dawn started her journey towards becoming a vet nurse by beginning her studies online in Narrabri NSW. As a prerequisite of her course, she began volunteering in a small veterinary practice in Narrabri on weekdays and at a local wildlife park on weekends.

Following the completion of Cert II Animal Studies, Dawn secured a full time job at the Western Namoi Veterinary Clinic, where she worked with everything from small domestic animals and wildlife, to large animals like horses and cattle. She enjoyed her work with wildlife, specifically working with local wildlife carers to rehabilitate and release these creatures back into the wild.

Once Dawn moved to Port Macquarie, she continued her studies online and began work placement at Port Vets, where she completed her Cert IV in Vet Nursing and became a qualified veterinary nurse.

Dawn officially joined the Port Vet team in 2014, and has worked in all areas of the hospital as a senior veterinary nurse.

Dawn has now moved into the position of Practice Manager, utilising her experience as an experienced vet nurse along with her past qualifications in marketing to be responsible for the day to day administrative jobs, as well as the growth and performance of Port Vets. She is committed to driving a positive team culture whilst ensuring that both clients and patients are looked after.

Dawn works closely with our Nurse Manager, Kylie Borham, in supporting continuing education as well as health and well-being for our ever growing team.

Dawn loves all animals, but is fondly known as the “bird nerd” at the clinic, for her obsession with not only her own two green cheeked conures, but for every bird that comes in.

When not at work, Dawn enjoys reading, drinking tea and gardening. She particularly loves to get away from the hustle and bustle of the job by spending time with her family and pets.
